BrainAcademi LITERACY PROGRAM
Does your child need reading support for Dyslexia, Written Output or Orthographic Processing? Enroll your child in our multi-sensory and research validated Literacy Program! Our educators have specialized literacy training and our step-by-step program follows an Orton-Gillingham like approach for decoding/reading and comprehension.

- Individualized Instructional Plan (IIP) based on the BrainAcademi intake assessment will be delivered to each student in a paced, structured and progressive approach
- In-person parent progress meeting scheduled after 20 hours of instruction
The BrainAcademi Intake Assessment is the first step in your child’s learning journey with us. The purpose of the assessment is to identify, measure and evaluate each student’s strengths and weaknesses in reading and comprehension. These results are scored and summarized to provide a baseline understanding of areas that may be impacting academic performance and will also be the foundation for the student’s Individualized Instructional Plan (IIP) at BrainAcademi.
- 1.5 hour private testing and assessment with each student
- Scoring, evaluation and summarizing report of those findings
- Follow up consultation with parent(s) to review the summarized results

EXECUTIVE FUNCATION/ORGANIZATION, PLANNING + STUDY SKILLS
Learning how to prioritize and stay on top of school assignments, homework, tests and exams as well as extracurricular activities is hard work. Students can feel overwhelmed and frustrated without proper support and planning assistance. Building organizational skills with the right information, tools, and resources can dramatically improve a student’s ability not just to succeed with coursework, but to excel in both school and life (all ages).
ESSAY WRITING (PRIVATE 1:1 TUTORING) / starting January 2021
Essay writing is perhaps one of the most difficult skills to learn in school. Whether it is in English, Social Studies, History or Law, essay writing is a critical component of most social science disciplines. Writing effective essays is not, however, limited to those courses. The ability to write well is an enormously useful skill that transfers across subject areas, careers, and even in day-to-day life. This course aims to help students develop and hone those skills and improve core essay writing abilities for success in school and beyond (ages 12 and up).

ARROWSMITH at BrainAcademi
The Arrowsmith Cognitive Enhancement Program strengthens learning capacities and academic outcomes for students of all ages! Think of our Arrowsmith Program like exercise for your brain. Going to the gym has health benefits for a person’s muscles, heart and overall well-being. Cognitive exercises have a similar effect on the brain by getting it into shape and ensuring it has a greater capacity to absorb and process information.
Cognitive health impacts every aspect of an individual from perception, attention, memory, motor skills, language and speech through to visual and spatial processing and executive functioning. When people strengthen the parts of the brain responsible for making these connections, they can find broad based benefits across many areas of their daily lives. Brain Health and wellness for all ages! Elementary, Teen and Adult Arrowsmith Programs offered.
The most common benefits of the Arrowsmith Program include:
- improved visual and auditory memory
- improved attention, concentration and mental clarity
- strengthened working memory, processing speed & cognitive efficiency
- strengthened cognitive processes necessary for more efficient learning
- improved verbal/non-verbal thinking, reasoning & problem solving skills
- improved capacity for concept formation for both visual-spatial and language based materials
- improved fine-motor skills necessary for writing and note taking
- increased self confidence
ARROWSMITH FOR STUDENTS WITH DYSLEXIA
People with learning differences work hard. In fact, their brains, built to learn, are often working infinitely harder than the brains of peers without learning differences. In one study, students with dyslexia were reported to be using their brain five times harder than those without. Why? Because the networks responsible for reading were not doing their jobs This makes the process inefficient, sometimes impossible. This also makes the brain and student exhausted. Dyslexia is a known brain disorder and defined by the DSM V (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders) as a “an alternative term used to refer to a pattern of learning difficulties characterized by problems with accurate or fluent word recognition, poor decoding and poor spelling abilities”.
Arrowsmith describes it like this: Dyslexia is a symptom of a range of weak cognitive functions. The functions impacted may include motor tracking of letters, visual memory of symbol patterns, memory for words, phonological awareness, conceptual understanding. When these functions are weak, essential skills such as reading (or writing, or mathematics) are difficult to acquire.
